Michael Hermanns, who was awarded a scholarship for a 2 weeks Italian Course offered by Sant’Anna Institute in collaboration with AATI, talks about his studying experience in Sorrento.
Overall I was very happy with my time spent in Sorrento at the Sant'Anna Institute. It was a really great experience for me and my brother. I would recommend the course for any student looking for a program that emphasizes the importance of communication within the target language, as class is taught completely in Italian. This way of teaching was very different from classes I had taken back in America, but in a very welcome way. I especially liked how the teachers were able to explain difficult language concepts so that I could understand, without having to switch back to English. The staff at the school was always ready to help and easy to work with, to arrange excursions (to Capri, Vesuvius, etc.,) and especially when arranging travel to and from the school. I stayed in the upstairs dormitory, which was all newly built and very clean. It was really great to be able to roll out bed and head downstairs 5 minutes before class started! Sorrento really is a beautiful city, and I'm so grateful for the chance to visit! I met so many great people there, many of them other students at the school, and I was finally able to use my Italian in real conversation. Thank so much to everyone at Sant'Anna for making my trip possible!
