Sant’Anna Institute strongly advocates for every undergraduate student to spend a period of their university education abroad. Living in a foreign country improves language and cross-cultural communication skills which broadens perspective and creates an appreciation for difference. This triggers personal development and the enrichment of life experiences through new traditions and customs.

The benefits of studying abroad are endless including:

  • enhances interest in academic study and influences subsequent educational and professional experiences
  • reinforces commitment to a foreign language study
  • helps to better understand students own cultural values and biases
  • positively influences future cross-cultural interactions and encourages a diverse social network
  • serves as a catalyst for increased maturity
  • increases self-confidence
  • has a lasting impact on personal world view

The terrain and ancient history in southern Italy offers unique courses of study. For example, where better to study archaeology and architecture than Sorrento when you are within easy reach of the Greek cities of Paesum and Cuma; the Roman cities of Pompeii, Herculaneum and Puteoli; the Roman villas of Oplonti and Castellammare; the Renaissance and Baroque architecture of Naples and the traditional Mediterranean townscapes of the Amalfi Coast including Sorrento itself! Or maybe you are studying hospitality where Sorrento allows students practical experience in the tourism industry including the opportunity to work in small, family run establishments.
