orrento is full of cultural, artistic and outdoor activities
year-round. Participating in these activities is a fun way
to learn the language and interact with the locals.

Cinema
Every year Sorrento hosts one of the most prestigious cinematic
events, the International Cinema Festival. It is a grand occasion
to see celebrities from the international world of film.
Theater
In the winter months, the festival "Teatro Insieme" hosts performances
by the most prestigious Italian theater companies.
Music
The festival "Estate Musicale Sorrentina" is the
main cultural event of the year, offering a series of concerts
and theatrical entertainments from the first week of July to
the first week of September. Throughout the year, free municipal
concerts, usually jazz or classical music, are held in several
other venues. In the adjacent town of Sant'Agnello, the Concerti
di Cocumella hosts weekend chamber-music concerts between May
and September at the gorgeous 17th-century Church of Santa
Maria.
Religious Festivals
Include processionals through the evening on Holy Friday*,
Christmas crèches, and celebrations on February 14th,
the day of St. Antonino, the patron saint of Sorrento.
*In Campania, Easter is an occasion to visitors for visitors to
get a glimpse of the important
tradition of processions during the Holy week.
Sorrento is the place where these processions
keep their most intense pathos and at the same time become
important events from a social and cultural point of view.
Long parades of the hooded are then followed by a huge crowd
which is deeply involved in the symbolisem of the scenes representing
Christ’s death. Along the coast, Sorrento stands out
for the perfect organization of two processions on Good Friday,
the white and the black ones. The whole town and the atmosphere
will arouse great emotion.

Water Sports
You can enjoy a wide range of water sports such as: snorkeling,
scuba diving, sailing, water-skiing, inflatable motor rentals
and more.
Shopping
the main shopping street, Via S. Cesario, is lined with dozens
of shops selling local and Italian crafts, as well as fruit
and vegetable stands. Corso Italia has more modern boutiques.
Traditional dishes & products
The Sorrentine Peninsula has a very ancient
cuisine tradition and offers tours for those seeking the ancient
tastes and historic wines. With a very ancient cheese tradition,
this region offers a big variety of handmade cheeses, such
as mozzarella, caciotta and provolone del Monaco (seasoned
cheese with spun dough with the characteristic melon shape).
Often mentioned in fine recipe books, is the legendary Gnocchi
Alla Sorrentina (potato dumplings made the sorrentina
way) with tomato, basil and melt fiordilatte (a kind of cheese), Limoncello
of Sorrento (alcoholic drink made with lemon barks,
alcohol, water and sugar, and Oil DOP (Protected
Origin Product) of the Peninsula Sorrentina is
also world famous.
Throughout the varied restaurant points in the area it is possible
to please any palate. After all, it is the great love
and passion for tradition that preserves these delights.
SORRENTO INLAID WORKS
The Sorrentine peninsula boasts a secular tradition in the
art of marquetry. For many years the artisans here have been
creating intricate inlaid works inspired by the old and classic
traditions.
Thanks to the carefully selected wood that comes from all
over the world, the artisans finely made goods contain a hint
of the past for the future.
